Community

Community is the foundation of Chicago Jewish Day School. It begins with bonds that strengthen and evolve into an extended family. Our students feel known and supported in a way that only can only happen in our unique and inclusive environment.

The CJDS community is enhanced by shared experiences both inside and outside the classroom. By coming together to perform mitzvot and make a positive difference in the world, we teach that each student can make a significant impact.

CJDS Gives Back

Tikkun Olam/Community Involvement

As part of Middle School's FEAST initiative (Friends Eating and Sharing Torah), Middle School visits the Talking Farm to learn about the importance sustainably grown food.

CJDS Composts

No post to display.

In 2022, our campus began our first composting program. Students, faculty, and staff came together to educate ourselves and one another about the process and the effects composting has on the planet. CJDS became a new member of Hazon’s Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition, a national network of Jewish organizations coming together to tackle climate change.

The value of Tikkun Olam is integrated into many areas of our curriculum, and this is one hands-on way students can turn their knowledge into action. Join us in giving back to the planet by contributing to the CJDS Composting Initiative.

B’nei Mitzvah Projects

Our B’nei Mitzvah students always like to involve our student body and community in their b’nei mitzvah projects. They have spread awareness about various organizations including PAWS, ARK, Knock Knock Give A Sock, JCFS, Lakeview Pantry, The Love Fridge Chicago, and more.

Commitment to Community

Our campus can host local gatherings, provide space for a variety of educational vendors, city-wide opportunities for learning and dialogue, and special occasions to celebrate or commemorate occasions as part of the broader Jewish community. Please contact our Operations and Logistics Administrator, Henry Bernstein, if you would like to hold a meeting and/or event at our new campus.

What is CJDS Community?

"Chicago Jewish Day School weaves values of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) into every aspect of the school experience. Faculty, students, and parents are strongly encouraged to participate in activities which improve the world and which promote justice, peace, compassion, and respect." -CJDS Mission and Vision
