Kol hakavod to another impressive CJDS alum, Elijah Steuerman ('21), who received the "Youth of the Year" Award from his synagogue, Beth Hillel B’nai Emunah, at "The Man and Youth of the Year Award Ceremony" last Sunday. Below is the the description about Elijah from the evening's program. We love he credits CJDS for where he learned Hebrew and developed a deep appreciation of Jewish culture. We are incredibly proud of Elijah!
"Elijah Steuerman is a senior at Evanston Township High School and has been a member of BHBE since moving to Evanston in 2021. He attended Chicago Jewish Day School from kindergarten through 8th grade where he learned Hebrew and developed a deep appreciation for Jewish culture. Shortly before the pandemic, Elijah also studied Torah for one of the last in-person Bar Mitzvas at Anshe Emet Synagogue.
Following his move to Evanston, Elijah was warmly welcomed by the close-knit BHBE community. For the past 1 V2 years he has been volunteering with the BHBE Sunday School where he shares his knowledge of Judaism and passion for learning with the next generation. Through this unique opportunity, he has been able to connect with his Jewish identity and find a greater sense of belonging within his congregation.
Independently, Elijah enjoys creating art and immersing himself in nature. He also loves spending time watching movies, playing tennis and board games, and traveling with family. Looking forward, he hopes to pursue a degree in engineering while continuing to give back to his Jewish community."
