Grade 1 students held their Kabbalat Siddur, culminating the school year with their families present. Grade 2 mentors handed each student their own siddur uniquely decorated by their parents. This ceremony also culminated a year-long study and theme of Tikkun Olam.
All year long, Grade 1 students have been paired with Grade 2 mentors during tefillah. The older students coached the younger ones with learning the prayers and songs. At their culmination, Grade 1 led tefillah for their families, spoke about their year and their dreams for the future, sang, and danced. They received their first siddurim from their Grade 2 student mentor. As is the CJDS tradition, the siddurim were beautifully decorated and designed by their parents.
This ceremony also culminated a year-long study and theme of Tikkun Olam. Throughout Grade 1, students dove into stories about people and characters that changed the world for the better in some way. Students created projects that they were able to show their parents and had the opportunity to teach others what they'd learned. The biggest takeaway for all the students is that we, ourselves, can work hard and be changemakers! Mazel Tov to Grade 1 students!
