Outdoor Spaces That Inspire
At Chicago Jewish Day School, learning, play, and community extend well beyond our classroom walls. Our thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces encourage students to explore, move, imagine, and connect every day. From energetic games on the Shelby's Field of Dreams to creative discovery in our nature-inspired playscape, the outdoors is an essential part of the CJDS experience.
The CJDS Playscape
Designed to spark imagination and exploration, the Playscape offers a unique outdoor environment unlike a traditional playground. Features include natural elements and innovative play experiences, such as a basketball court, saucer swings, climbing structures, a water feature, and an outdoor stage, making it a favorite for students of all ages.
As we grow, the Playscape continues to evolve! Upcoming additions will include a new saucer swing, a mud kitchen, a sandbox, enhanced features for the playhouse, toy storage, and creative arts panels.
Shelby's Field of Dreams
Shelby's Field of Dreams is the heart of outdoor activity at CJDS. Dedicated in honor of Alumni Parent Shelby Lerner, z"l, this expansive synthetic turf field provides a safe, year-round space where students run, play, compete, and celebrate together. A favorite spot on the Field is the Gaga pit, where students of all ages enjoy this fast-paced, high-energy game that builds teamwork and sportsmanship.
Learning in Nature
Some of the most memorable moments at CJDS happen outdoors. Whether conducting science observations, reading outside with a classmate, or simply enjoying time with friends, students experience firsthand that learning isn't confined to four walls. Our outdoor spaces provides opportunities to move, explore, create, and grow every day.
