One of the important Grade One science standards is exploring how we can use attributes from the natural world to solve human problems.
Grade One students learned about the characteristics and life cycle of a frog. We then discussed the differences between humans and frogs, particularly focusing in on a frog's webbed feet. First, we hypothesized and discussed why frogs have webbed feet and how that helps them live in their environment. Then, as part of our experiential learning, we covered our hand with a Ziploc bag and put it in a tub of water to feel for ourselves what it is like having webbed feet.
