More than a kitchen, HaMitbach is where integrated learning comes to life.

In this state-of-the-art learning kitchen, located in the newly renovated Mozart building, students connect science, math, Hebrew, Jewish studies, culture, and culinary arts through meaningful, hands-on experiences.

HaMitbach is fully equipped with four cooking stations, each containing induction cooktops, ovens, microwaves, and sinks. This setup provides students with the tools and ingredients needed for hands-on learning.

Learning Beyond the Textbook

HaMitbach elevates learning by providing students with opportunities to apply their classroom learning in authentic, hands-on ways. Students explore chemistry through baking, reinforce math by measuring and scaling recipes, connect with Jewish history and culture through traditional foods, and bring Hebrew to life in an authentic setting. Engaging all of their senses, they discover that learning is richer, deeper, and more meaningful when they actively participate in the process.

Rooted in Jewish Tradition

Jewish learning in HaMitbach is experienced through food, not just studied. Students experience the richness of Jewish life around the world. As they prepare dishes tied to holidays and traditions, they gain a deeper appreciation for Jewish history, identity, and the diverse customs and culinary traditions that have evolved across generations and continents. They learn to bake traditional Ethiopian dabo for Sigd, prepare festive recipes, and explore the diverse culinary traditions of Jewish communities from Ethiopia, Israel, Morocco, Iraq, Yemen, Eastern Europe, and beyond, highlighting the influence of various cultures on Jewish life over the centuries.

Building Community Around the Table

HaMitbach is more than a kitchen; it's a gathering place where community is built one recipe at a time. Whether it's through classes or mishpacha (CJDS family) activities, students collaborate side by side as they share stories, learn from one another, celebrate together, and create lasting memories. The simple act of preparing food becomes an opportunity to build friendships, strengthen leadership skills, and cultivate a sense of belonging that makes CJDS feel like family.
