CJDS Rams Basketball in tournament

A note from Ms. J...

I’d like to add a little color to these photos of our Rams basketball team, because we truly couldn't be prouder of the sportsmanship and grit they demonstrated last week. Thanks to our new Athletic Director and Rams Varsity Basketball Coach, Eric Lindau, we were invited for the first time to the Jewish Day School National Basketball Tournament, a middle school tournament held in Ida Crown Jewish Academy's beautiful gym. Participating schools included local teams from CJDS, Hillel Torah, and Akiba-Schechter, as well as visiting teams from Akiba Academy of Dallas and Milwaukee Jewish Day School.

We brought members from both our Varsity and Junior Varsity teams because, as it turned out, the tournament conflicted with the Grade 8 trip to Israel. Our team was comprised of fifth, sixth, and seventh graders and only fifth and sixth graders on Saturday night due a classmate's Bat Mitzvah. As we played other teams comprised of mostly seventh and eighth graders, our CJDS Rams showed their true character. They played with all their heart, demonstrating incredible sportsmanship and resilience. They never gave up. In fact, in spite of the absence of our seventh grader players, on Saturday night our JV players won the only game of the tournament for CJDS!

We thank Coach Eric for providing this invaluable experience for our CJDS Rams players and for sacrificing his weekend to coach our team. We thank the parents of our players for schlepping to and from Ida Crown multiple times over a four day period. And thank you to all of the siblings of our players who attended and cheered for the Rams. We hope to be invited again next year but let's hope for no calendar conflicts!
