Dear CJDS Community,
Today was an amazing opening day at CJDS. Two hundred and ten students walked through our doors and were greeted by a sea of famous faces and their own classmates announcing our theme of Hineni - I am here - How will you answer the call?
All of our buildings were a buzz with the sounds of nervous and excited students being greeted enthusiastically by their teachers. In addition, we had a wonderful turn out of parents who enjoyed our parent coffee and chapel full of parents participating in our new parent orientation. In the middle school, the year started with a bang, as we celebrated the Bar Mitzvah of Eytan. Not only did he bring along his parents, Stacy and Joey, and siblings, but also two sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins and his great-grandmother.
In our B'nei Mitzvah celebrations, we typically physically pass the Torah from one generation to the next. The picture created by the his family passing the Torah through three generations to the fourth was both heartwarming and moving. We wish them a Mazal Tov as they celebrate Eytan's Bar Mitzvah this weekend.
In addition to the above activities, the Parent Committee hosted an oversubscribed Back to School Picnic filled with fun activities, food and even a Tikun Olam project cleaning the beach! We also had a successful first day of bus transportation.
Lastly, the Parent Committee provided a beautiful back to school lunch for our annual first day of school faculty and staff meeting.Cara Gutstein spoke beautifully to our faculty and staff on behalf of all CJDS parents and even incorporated beautiful words of Torah reflecting our theme of Hineni.
Thank you to the Parent Committee leadership: Brooke Herszage and Elisheva Beller for coordinating all of the activities and refreshments for our opening day.
In closing, thank you to all of our students, parents, teachers and staff for a wildly successful opening day. We look forward to an equally exciting year!
Ms. J (Judy)
