On Wednesday evening, Grades 5-8 families participated in our biennial Science Night. Students and parents engaged in the same design process middle school science students use during their engineering units. Students and parents identified goals, came up with strategies, tested and retested to ultimately find a solution for a problem. Groups worked together to build devices to launch and return a ping pong ball back and forth over a paper net without touching the ground. The goal was to send the ping pong ball back and forth, just like a volleyball game! The devices need to be built from the approved list of materials, which includes things like pencils, rubber bands, paper, tape, and disposable cups. This challenge came from the 2019 Fluor Engineering Challenge.
