While celebrating Hanukkah, students explored the properties of light in different stations. By using the light box with transparent geometric shapes, they were able to discover how different shapes fit together to create patterns. In the dark, students used hand-crank flashlights to illuminate the pictures of the Hanukkah story.

During their penguin unit, students played with ice to discover melting and freezing properties of water and how ice sticks together when it starts melting (see right). They used child jumbo tweezers to stack ice cubes on top of one another to create a balanced structure.
