Middle School
The CJDS Middle School offers an engaging learning environment where students think critically, collaborate, and actively participate in their learning. Whether debating democracy in U.S. History or studying Rabbinic texts in chevruta (study partners), students are challenged to explore ideas from multiple perspectives.
What I love most is that students at CJDS are not just taught what to learn - they’re taught how to think, reflect, and grow as learners and people.

Middle School Community
Community is at the heart of the Middle School experience. Through daily tefillah (prayer), holiday celebrations, student leadership, and meaningful service opportunities, Middle School students build strong relationships, deepen their Jewish identity, and live the values of tikkun olam, tzedek, and chesed. Together, they learn to lead with purpose, support one another, and make a meaningful impact within the school and beyond.
Arts Specialty
The annual Middle School musical is the hallmark of the Arts Specialty Program and a beloved tradition that every student eagerly anticipates. Every Middle School student plays an essential role, whether on stage or behind the scenes in choreography, lighting, sound, set design, or technical production. Working alongside faculty and visiting artists, students build confidence, creativity, perseverance, and a strong sense of community. Athletics
CJDS Rams Athletics provides students with opportunities to compete, grow, and build school spirit through a variety of team and individual sports, including cross country, flag football, and basketball. Our student-athletes proudly represent CJDS in competition against dozens of local schools, developing teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and a lifelong love of healthy competition. Learning Outside the Classroom
Learning extends far beyond the classroom at CJDS. Students engage with the world through hands-on experiences such as conducting science investigations along the Chicago River, participating in a civic duty program at the courthouse, exploring Chicago's renowned museums, and connecting with local organizations and experts. These authentic experiences deepen learning, inspire curiosity, and help students become thoughtful, engaged members of their communities.
Grade Eight Israel Trip
The Grade 8 Israel Trip is the culminating experience of a CJDS education. After years of Hebrew learning and deep exploration of Israel and Jewish history, students embark on a transformative journey that brings their learning to life. Traveling through the places they have studied and speaking Hebrew with confidence, they experience firsthand the people, culture, and spirit of Israel. This unforgettable trip celebrates their growth as learners and Jewish leaders, strengthening their connection to Israel and leaving them with lifelong memories and a deeper sense of identity and belonging.
High School Placement
Every student deserves a high school that is the right fit academically, socially, and emotionally. Through a collaborative partnership with families, teachers, and counselors, we provide personalized guidance to help students identify schools and programs where they will thrive.
