Commemorating Yom HaShoah at CJDS
  • Jewish Campus Life

On Monday, as part of our commemoration of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, students in Grades 5-8 met with Dr. Arnold Clevs, a Holocaust survivor. Dr. Clevs lived in Lakeview for many years and spoke to us from Jerusalem where he currently resides.

Dr. Clevs shared his story of witnessing the Nazi invasion of Lithuania at the age of eight, living through 11 Concentration Camps, losing his father and family members, and making it through by leaning on his friends. He miraculously was reunited with his mother and sister after the war.

He ended his talk by reminding us that one form of resistance is by living full, happy, prideful Jewish lives, something we strive for each day at CJDS. Thank you to Dr. Clevs for sharing his story, we will bear witness in the years to come. Am Yisrael Chai!
