Grade 1 knows how to throw a reading party! Last Friday, students culminated their author study by dressing as a favorite character from a Kevin Henkes or Tom Percival book. Throughout their learning, students practiced sequencing stories, making connections with characters, and tracking character growth through or across books using writing, art, and discussion. They walked the red carpet, did graphing and sorting activities, went “camping” and “roasted” marshmallows, took surveys, and more — all using characters, ideas, and themes from the books read in class.
