This week in Judaic Studies, Grade 3 students explored the symbols of the Maccabean revolt against the Seleucid army in 165 BCE. They discussed the symbols significant to the Maccabees and how indigenous artists incorporate them into their pottery. Additionally, the students identified symbols that resonate with their Jewish identities. The learning experience culminated in the creation of clay oil lamps, which students imprinted with their own chosen symbols.
