JK Students Transform Cardboard Castle into a Pulley-Powered Pyramid

After Purim, JK students began wondering what to do with the armon  (castle) they had built. As students prepared for Passover, they expressed interest in redesigning their cardboard castle to connect with the Passover story. This question inspired students to reimagine their structure on a larger scale.

Building on their earlier exploration of castles, students drew blueprints, created drawings, and shared ideas through stories and discussion. Their teachers introduced cardboard as a construction material, sparking a new provocation that invited them to explore pulley systems as they transformed their structure into a pyramid inspired by those built in ancient Egypt.

Students explored concepts such as distance and resistance as they tested materials and discovered that thick, non-stretch rope worked best. They reinforced their structure, designed a pyramid topper, and decided the stones should look gold, painting them yellow and adding glitter. Using pulleys, they brought their vision to life.
