Junior Kindergarten & Kindergarten Artists Construct Stunning Hanukkiyot
  • Lower School
  • Reggio Emilia-Inspired Learning
Over the past few weeks, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students have been immersed in Hanukkah learning and creating. Many students brought hanukkiyot from home, and in small groups, discussed the diverse designs and the significance of the hanukkiyah in relation to the history of Hanukkah. Many students expressed interest in creating their own hanukkiyot and then helped to collect and sort repurposed materials to use. They worked in small groups in the atelier, sharing their thoughts and ideas in one-on-one conversations with a teacher while building their hanukkiyot using beautiful loose parts. As they created, they refined their math skills by counting, matching, and arranging their designs with care. On Friday, the hanukkiyot were prominently displayed in the Mozart building, enhancing the festive atmosphere of the community-wide Hanukkat HaBayit event.
