Grade 1 Students Inspired by MLK Book, Create English & Hebrew Agamographs

Thoughtful integrated learning is learning at its best! Last week, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, Grade 1 students read the book Martin's Big Words. Simultaneously, they learned about Yaacov Agam, an Israeli artist, who uses optical illusions in his art. They talked about what a "big" word is - not necessarily a long or difficult word, but a word that makes a positive difference in the world. Students were inspired to choose their own big word in English and then translated that word into Hebrew. In the style of Agam, they made their own agamographs, which now beautifully adorn the hallway.
