Grade 8 Students Step into 1904 to Market the Dream of a Jewish Homeland
  • Judaic Studies
  • Middle School
Grade 8 students traveled back in time in Judaic Studies. The year is 1904, and the Jewish National Fund hired them to develop a marketing campaign. Their objective was to encourage immigration or to raise money for the immigration of Jews to Ottoman Palestine. Students/marketers began by studying world Jewry and identifying images/slogans/verses/language that would appeal to different communities. They worked in pairs and small groups to create posters that would appeal to Jews in Russian shtetls, to the music halls of Vienna, to the Hakham in Baghdad, and to a donor base in the USA. With their upcoming class trip to Israel, this project resonates deeply with their learning about the country.
