Grade 6 Science Students Explore Matter Through Box Challenge
  • Middle School
  • Science
Grade 6 science students in Middle School Teacher Claudia Edwards' class have been studying matter and its properties. Because matter occupies space, they were tasked with creating a rectangular box with a target volume in centimeters. The box they build will be evaluated based on precision (does its volume hit the target?), durability (will it remain intact after a 2-meter drop?), design, and how well it illustrates a property of matter (magnetism, reflectivity, hardness, etc.). Students have been busy calculating measurements, selecting materials, and using tools to create a box to best satisfy the criteria.
