Grade 6 science students are learning how a given object can look different in different circumstances and how light plays a role. After watching a video of two people unknowingly interacting with a one-way mirror, Science Teacher Kate Schulte challenged students in small groups to make observations, tease out the important components, and then determine how to replicate the phenomenon with the materials provided (two banker boxes, a flashlight, duct tape, and some one-way mirror film).
Next week students will explore what happens when they switch the light source's location, how light interacts with the one-way mirror surface at a more detailed level, and how our eyes and brains process what we see.
