Grade 5 students have been focusing on an often-overlooked digital citizenship lesson: the importance of device-free moments and giving our brains time away from screens to better connect with friends, family, and our surroundings. Students discussed how our focus and thinking shift when technology isn’t in front of us. They put this into action through a collaborative cup-stacking challenge, working in teams under creative constraints such as using non-dominant hands, staying silent, or building together as a full class. Collaboration and communication were at the heart of the experience, and students wrapped up the lesson asking for more hands-on building challenges.
