Grade 4 Students Travel America's Regions!
  • Humanities
  • Lower School

Grade 4 students explored the regions of the United States, focusing on the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West. They learned about each region’s geography, history, culture, climate, and landmarks, and considered why regional differences matter.

This unit connected closely to the grade's reading and writing work. In reading, students practiced understanding nonfiction and historical texts by comparing and contrasting information, identifying cause and effect, recognizing chronological order, and synthesizing key details from multiple sources. In writing, students applied their "boxes and bullets" structure to organize their ideas, supporting a main topic with clear facts and details about each region.

To conclude the unit, students worked in groups on a research project about one region. They investigated topics such as landforms, landmarks, Jewish points of interest, cultural highlights, historical events, and climate. Students presented their projects to their classmates, and our third graders joined us for a gallery walk to view the presentations and learn from their work.

It was really wonderful to see students confidently collaborate, share their knowledge, and excel as researchers and presenters!
