This week, Grade 2 watched their butterflies being released as part of their butterfly unit! Students became “butterfly parents” as they carefully recorded their observations in journals at every stage of the life cycle. Each student named their caterpillar and carefully recorded their observations in their butterfly journals while also learning about the parts of a caterpillar and a butterfly. Once the caterpillars formed chrysalises, they were moved to a butterfly habitat where students excitedly watched them emerge as butterflies. The unit ended with the special experience of releasing the butterflies outdoors after weeks of hands-on learning and discovery.
