Grade 6 science students utilized the Walder Innovation Lab to examine water's properties, focusing on adhesion and cohesion, with teachers Claudia Edwards and Kate Burstein. Using cups, a wet string, and tape (as well as some ingenuity and experimentation), students worked to achieve the goal of having water travel from one cup to the other along a string. As a group, they needed to consider how to create a system that proved that water's attraction to itself and other substances could counteract gravity. Some groups were able to experiment with different types of strings, as well as pipe cleaners, to compare the results. After getting their system to work, they recorded the journey of the water along the string using their Chromebooks to capture the process in slow motion.
