Kindergarten students have been learning about the Civil Rights Movement and many important leaders that led the way peacefully for change. They read stories about Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Jackie Robinson. Students learned about Dr. King's famous “I have a Dream" speech, and teachers then prompted them with the questions about what their dreams are for themselves and for the world.
Throughout the past few days, the classes have been discussing key concepts of segregation, justice, unfair laws and peaceful ways to make changes in our world.
Students in Tamar Cytryn's Grades 3, 4, and 5 Judaic Studies classes have been learning about the life of MLK, specifically the connection between his work and the stories of the beginning of the book of Exodus. Through various activities and discussions, they made thought-provoking observations.
