Grade 2 Students Connect Their Own Bravery & Courage to Patricia Polacco's "Thunder Cake"
  • Lower School

As Grade 2 wrapped up their Patricia Polacco unit, students celebrated by diving into Thunder Cake—a heartwarming story that explores themes of bravery and courage. Together, they discussed moments in their lives when they felt afraid and how, like the characters in the story, they found ways to face their fears instead of avoiding them.

To bring the story to life, the classes embarked on a hands-on baking project inspired by Thunder Cake. Each child had a unique responsibility, and their teamwork and cooperation made the activity a great success. Students applied math skills they've been learning in the classroom to the practical process of measuring ingredients.

Finally, they enjoyed the cake they made together—a delicious reward that symbolized the power of facing fears, working as a team, and celebrating each other's contributions. It was a memorable way to conclude the Patricia Polacco unit and left everyone with full hearts and happy smiles!
