All year long, the CJDS hallways are adorned with gorgeous and colorful artwork made by our students. The credit behind each creation goes to talented Art Teacher Rachel Treister, who elevates each and every project to the next level through her teaching. Take a look at what students in Grades 1, 2, 4, and 5 have been creating:

Grade 1 students just finished a unit studying the Japanese printmaker Katsushika Hokusai. They used their hands at sketching and then watercoloring images from his famous wave series and later created that same wave with sculpting material.

Grade 2 students looked at the work of the Huichol people of Mexico and tried their hands at creating a mixed media project by designing intricate flowers with yarn and beads.

Grade 4 just completed a unit sketching a landscape from a one point perspective. They began by drawing first in pencil and then embellishing their sketches with watercolor paint.

Grade 5 spent the last 3 weeks learning the technique of paper curling or quilling. Using colored construction paper, they filled in their drawings using different shaped quills.
