Lower School General Studies Teacher

Middle School Science Teacher

Responsibilities Include:

Planning for and teaching grades 6-8 science classes

Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary middle school team

Leading an advisory group with curated activities throughout the school year

Determining students' academic and social emotional learning goals and ensuring that they're met

Designing experiential, project-based learning that is relevant and real-world

Lower School Learning Specialist
Chicago Jewish Day School seeks to hire an experienced and knowledgeable learning specialist to join our Student Services Team comprised of three learning specialists, a school psychologist, and a social worker.

- Professional Educator’s License
- 3 or more years teaching experience with grades 1 through 5
- Experience teaching Math and Reading in grades 1-5
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Facility to create a positive, nurturing environment for students
- A love and understanding of children and their developmental stages
- Knowledge of current best practices in elementary school education
- Ability to develop positive relationships with parents
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize
- Excellent ability to collaborate, develop, and communicate differentiation strategies with classroom teacher
- Experience teaching Math and Reading in grades 1-5
- Experience/Ability to be trained to work as a case manager, facilitating implementation of student service plans, collaborating with a team of teachers, providing individual and small group remediation to individual students in and out of the classroom, and cooperation/meetings with parents Teaching grades 1 through 5 in both inclusion and pull-out models
- Working collaboratively with parents and outside providers as team partners
- Adapting classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans
- Supporting and encouraging teacher learning regarding accommodations and modifications

One-on-One Early Childhood Paraprofessional
Job Summary:
The One-on-One Early Childhood Paraprofessional provides one-on-one support for an individual junior
kindergarten student with developmental disabilities along with being an integral member of the junior kindergarten team of teachers and the full classroom of students. The paraprofessional assists in the supervision, care, instruction, and implementation of the developmentally appropriate educational opportunities with an emphasis on developing the whole child–cognitive, social/emotional, language/communication, and physical development. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual interested in a career in inclusive education in early childhood. We welcome applications from students currently in training for paraprofessional or education positions.
Performance Responsibilities and Requirements:
● Work 1:1 and with the whole class full time 7:30 am-3:30 pm. A part time arrangement is possible.
● Establish a positive and supportive relationship with the student(s) which encourages independent
functioning rather than dependency.
● Redirect student behavior and encourage positive student interactions with peers.
● Support established classroom and behavior management procedures.
● Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing the skills of individual student(s) based on
their needs, interests or abilities.
● Assist with the supervision of student(s) including during emergency drills, assemblies, play/recess periods,
lunch, nurse, or field trips.
● Assist the student with toileting as needed.
● Facilitate the student’s outside therapies as needed.
● Support the student when transitioning from one room to another.
● Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about the student(s).
● Participate in professional development training programs, as assigned.
● Perform other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
● Communicate on a regular basis with both classroom teachers and parents.
Qualifications:
● Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
● Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions regarding the safety and welfare of students.
● Ability to perform assigned duties and tasks with a minimum of direction.
● Ability to maintain an effective student, parent, and co-worker relationships.
● Demonstrate good attendance and be on time each day.
● Display a positive and collaborative nature when working with faculty/staff.
● Encourage a positive learning environment in each setting within the school.
● Maintain confidentiality of student information.
● Communicate questions/communications with parents to the supervising teacher.
● Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is
expected of fully licensed teachers.
Certification:
● State of Illinois paraprofessional or teaching license–preferred
