High School Guidance

At CJDS, it is our position that students should attend schools that “best fit” their academic, social and emotional needs. Research repeatedly shows that a student’s motivation, performance, self-perception, and experience is optimal when the environment they are in meets their needs. Using a team approach of parent, teacher and counselor, we help you identify those schools, programs, or courses that best suit your child.

Because middle school is a time of immense growth and metamorphosis, we don’t begin looking for “best fit” school options until the end of Grade Seven. Attending open houses and talking to peers before this can be informative, but for many it is anxiety-inducing. Moreover, like your developing child, CPS and the school scene in Chicago is constantly changing and what is true while your child is in Grade Six, may no longer be true when your child is in Grade Eight.
